# The Power of the Rosary and Luminous Mysteries
*2023-02-02*

> Bill Young shares a miraculous story of prayer, reflects on his own experience with the Rosary, and leads listeners through the Luminous Mysteries, emphasizing trust in God's mercy.

## A Recent Miracle

A few months ago John’s 99‑year‑old mother in Sweden fell and broke her hip. After surgery she slipped into a coma, and doctors said she had only minutes left. While John’s family prayed the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, her vital signs suddenly stabilized and she awoke. This reminded us that the Rosary, “the most powerful prayer after the Mass,” can be a conduit of God’s mercy.

## Why We Trust the Rosary

My wife and I struggled with infertility. After a miscarriage, we prayed the Rosary daily for weeks. One morning the bleeding stopped, the pregnancy continued, and we were blessed with our son Gregory, now almost 30. These personal testimonies, along with John’s story, show that the Rosary and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy are powerful means of obtaining graces when we place ourselves in God’s will.

## The First Luminous Mystery: The Baptism of Jesus

We begin with the baptism of Christ. As He emerged from the water, the heavens opened, the Holy Spirit descended like a dove, and the Father proclaimed, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matt 3:16‑17). We pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, asking the Holy Spirit to open our hearts to the mystery of divine adoption.

## The Second Luminous Mystery: The Wedding at Cana

At the wedding, Mary says to the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.” Jesus turns water into wine, showing His power over the elements (John 2:5‑7). We pray for the grace to trust Mary’s intercession and to receive the graces God promises through this mystery.

## The Third Luminous Mystery: The Proclamation of the Kingdom

Jesus sends His disciples, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand; cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons” (Matt 10:7‑8). We ask for repentance, trust, and the courage to proclaim the Gospel in our daily lives.

## The Fourth Luminous Mystery: The Transfiguration

While praying, Jesus’ face shines and His garments become dazzling white. A voice from the cloud declares, “This is my beloved Son; listen to Him” (Luke 9:29‑35). We pray for a deeper desire for holiness and for the light of Christ to illuminate our hearts.

## The Fifth Luminous Mystery: The Institution of the Eucharist

At the Last Supper, Jesus takes bread and wine, saying, “This is my Body… this is the cup of the new covenant in my blood” (Luke 22:19‑20). We pray for reverence and adoration for the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith.

*When we place our trust in the Rosary and the Luminous Mysteries, we open ourselves to the mercies God freely offers.*
