# Prayer for the Sick and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
*2023-01-19*

> Bill and John open with prayers for those seriously injured and for the sick in a local care facility, then lead the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the souls of priests and religious, concluding with a litany and a closing prayer.

## Opening Prayer for the Sick

We begin by lifting up those who have been seriously injured in a recent auto accident and all who are suffering in the care facility we visit. May the Lord grant swift healing to those who have fallen, especially Father Jeff McCann, and bring comfort to every sick person we know.

## Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

Almighty and Eternal God, we pray on behalf of the souls in purgatory. Through the precious Body and Blood of Your Divine Son, Jesus, who offered Himself as a perpetual sacrifice, grant them the grace of final purification. May they be united with the faithful and receive the mercy of Your love. Amen.

## Chaplet of Divine Mercy (Second Day)

Lord Jesus, source of all goodness, increase Your grace in the priests and religious who serve You. Strengthen them to perform worthy works of mercy and to glorify the Father of Mercy. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon these chosen ones, endow them with faith, love, and the light of Your Son, that they may guide others to salvation. Amen.

John leads the Litany of Divine Mercy, recalling the words Jesus gave to St. Maria Faustina:

*I trust in You, Divine Mercy, source of all miracles and wonders.*
*I trust in You, God of infinite compassion.*
*I trust in You, Savior who stands beside the dying, not as judge but as merciful companion.*
(Repeated several times.)

## Closing Prayer

Eternal God, whose mercy knows no bounds, look kindly upon us. Increase Your mercy in our hearts so that in difficult moments we do not despair but trust confidently in Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.

## Reflection and Invitation

We are reminded of the power of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, especially when prayed for the dying. St. Faustina taught that reciting this chaplet brings great graces at the hour of death. May we keep this prayer close to our hearts and offer it for ourselves and for others in need of God's infinite mercy.

*The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is a powerful prayer that brings God's boundless mercy to the dying and to all who trust in Him.*
