# Thanksgiving for Mercy After the Storm
*2022-11-10*

> Bill Young and John O'Rourke thank God for being spared by the recent hurricane, pray the “Come, Spirit of Life” prayer, and lead a series of Divine Mercy prayers and reflections.

## Opening Thanksgiving

Bill welcomes listeners to the Thursday episode of Prayer and Lunch. He recalls the Gospel story of the ten lepers, noting that only one returned to thank Jesus, and expresses gratitude that the recent hurricane passed South Florida with minimal damage. He prays for those who were directly in the storm’s path, acknowledging that even a weak tropical system can cause great loss.

## Come, Spirit of Life Prayer

Bill introduces a prayer he found titled “Come, Spirit of Life.” He and John recite it together:

“Come, Spirit of God, renew the work of creation so that a more holy and righteous society may be born. Come, Spirit of Knowledge, make the Church wholly obedient to the Gospel. Come, Spirit of Grace, transform the Church with holiness so she may become the family of the Children of God. Come, Spirit of Counsel, guide the Church through history. Come, Spirit of Mercy, free the Church from the slavery of evil. Come, Spirit of Praise, grant the Church wisdom concerning God. Come, Spirit of Fortitude, give the Church courage to proclaim the Gospel to all peoples. Come, Spirit of Service, build the Church on the foundation of unity and peace, so that she may be in harmony with the joys and sufferings of humanity. Come, Spirit of Resurrection, as you raised Jesus from the dead, bring all people to eternal life and glory. Amen.”

## Prayers for the Souls in Purgatory

John offers a prayer for the souls in purgatory, invoking the precious blood of Christ and asking that the souls, especially those most devoted to divine love, may be released and enjoy eternal glory. Bill then leads an opening prayer invoking the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, followed by the Our Father, Hail Mary, Psalm 130, and the Apostles’ Creed.

## Divine Mercy Chaplet and Litany

The hosts pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, offering the body and blood of Christ for the sins of the world and repeatedly asking for mercy. They then recite the Litany of Divine Mercy, each line answered with “I trust in you.” Bill invites John to lead a short prayer recalling the 1917 appar{unclear} of Fatima, asking for mercy for sinners and for the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

## Announcements and Closing

Bill announces a Mass on Tuesday at 8 a.m. at St. David’s Catholic Church in Davie, Florida, dedicated to the auxiliary members of the Legion of Mary. He invites anyone to join, whether Legion members or not. The episode concludes with a heartfelt thank‑you to God for His protection, a final prayer for mercy, and a reminder that listeners can email billyoung12@yahoo.com for Zoom links to future Divine Mercy sessions.

*Even in the midst of storms, we are called to give thanks for God’s mercy and to pray for the souls entrusted to His loving care.*
