## Celebrating the Queenship of Mary

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today is Saturday, August 22, the Feast of the Queenship of Mary. We honor Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth, reflecting on her role in salvation history and her perpetual intercession for the Church.

## Opening Prayer of the Marathon

Oh Mary, blessed by the Most High, Mother of Grace, praise of the Church, we lift our hearts to you. Beloved Daughter of the Father, by accepting the Angel’s Annunciation you cooperated in the salvation of humanity. In you the created order began to obey the Creator once again. Mother of Jesus, Son of God, by keeping God’s word in your heart you showed us the way of wisdom. In you the Good News was revealed to humanity; beloved spouse of the Spirit, by welcoming the Word of God into your womb you gave life to the world. In your humanity you became the dwelling place of the Eternal One. Your singular destiny and maternal intercession have been devoutly remembered for centuries.

Merciful Mother, prayerful Virgin, we turn to you. May your intercession sustain our plea. May your mercy bring peace and salvation to us, our families, our communities, all our brothers and sisters in faith, and all men and women. Grant us, through you, a true knowledge of Christ, the gifts of the Holy Spirit, protection, and deliverance from evil. May we, with your help, establish the Kingdom of the Lord—a kingdom of justice and peace for all people forever. Amen.
