# Jesus Wants Us Free
*2022-10-21*

> Bill reflects on the Lenten reading from John 14:31, explores what true Christian freedom looks like, and asks for the intercession of the blessed children of Fatima.

## Opening Prayer and Intentions

Good morning, I’m Bill Young. Today we’re in the first week of Lent, and we also celebrate the feast day of the blessed children of Fatima, Jacinta and Francisco Marto. Though their lives were brief, they left a powerful witness through the Marian apparitions at Fatima. Let us ask for their prayers for the conversion of souls, especially for Russia, and for peace in the world.

## Lenten Reading: John 14:31

Our Lenten reading comes from John 14:31: “I have done the work the Father has given me to do, so that the world may know that I love the Father.” Jesus listened attentively to the Father’s voice and followed it. In the Father, He found strength and light for His journey.

## What Freedom Means for Christians

Jesus calls us to a freedom that mirrors His own—freedom that arises from a living dialogue with God the Father. He does not desire Christians who are selfish, following only their own ego, nor does He want those who are weak and lack personal will, nor those who become mere remote‑control agents of someone else’s agenda. True freedom is rooted in hearing God in our conscience and responding to Him.

## Prayer for Personal Freedom

Let us pray: Jesus, help me become more free by following You and Your ways.

*Christian freedom is found only in a personal, listening relationship with the Father.*
