# Novena for Faithful Citizenship – Day 8
*2022-10-19*

> Bill Young continues the eight‑day novena for faithful citizenship, reflecting on Isaiah 32:15‑18 and praying for peace, justice, and protection against the evils of our time.

## Opening Prayer

Good afternoon, this is Bill Young, and welcome to Catholic Podcast Ministries, Prayer and Lunch. Let us begin in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love.

## Scripture Reading – Isaiah 32:15‑18

The reading for today is Isaiah 32:15‑18:

“The Spirit from on high will be poured out on us; the desert will become a fruitful orchard. Justice will dwell in the orchard, and righteousness will bring about peace. Righteousness will produce calm and security. My people will live in a peaceful country, in secure dwellings, in quiet, resting places.”

## Reflection

How do I recognize the Spirit’s involvement in my life and in my community? The passage reminds us that when the Holy Spirit is poured out, even the most barren places become places of fruitfulness, justice, and peace. We can look for the Spirit’s work in moments of reconciliation, in the quiet confidence that comes from trusting God’s justice, and in the transformation of hostile environments into places of hospitality.

## Prayer of the Day

Spirit of God, fill our hearts with peace so that we may bring peace to our community. Amen.

## Novena Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Immaculate Heart of Mary, help us conquer the menace of evil that so easily takes root in the hearts of people today. Deliver us from famine, war, nuclear catastrophe, and all forms of self‑destruction. Deliver us from sin against human life, from hatred, and from any violation of the dignity of the children of God. Deliver us from injustice, both national and international, and from the readiness to trample God’s commandments.

Protect us from strife in human hearts, from all falsehoods, and from sin against the Holy Spirit. Accept, O Mother of Christ, this cry laden with the suffering of every individual and of society as a whole. With the power of the Holy Spirit, help us conquer all sin—personal and communal—in every manifestation. May the infinite saving power of redemption and merciful love shine forth, stopping evil and transforming consciences. May your Immaculate Heart reveal the light of hope for all. Amen.

*When the Holy Spirit fills our hearts, even the desert of our lives can become an orchard of peace and justice.*
