# Consecrating the Family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
*2022-06-01*

> Bill Young leads a special June 1st prayer, consecrating families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, followed by a rosary and reflections on the Glorious Mysteries.

## Opening and Purpose

Good afternoon. I’m Bill Young, and although John O’Rourke can’t join us today, I wanted to mark June 1st, the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This month is dedicated to the Sacred Heart, so I’m leading a family consecration prayer and a rosary for anyone listening on Zoom or at home.

## The Act of Consecration

The Act of Consecration of the Family to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a beautiful prayer that recalls the promise Jesus made to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque. It asks that the image of the Sacred Heart in the home be blessed, that peace reign in families, and that God pour out blessings on work, health, and the final moments of life.

The family gathers before a picture of the Sacred Heart, surrounded by candles. After a moment of silence, the father or mother recites the act:

“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.”

Then we pray:

“Sweet Heart of Jesus, who promised Saint Margaret Mary that you would bless the houses where your image is exposed, accept this consecration of our family. May we recognize you as King of our souls and proclaim your reign over all creation. Grant us peace, unity, love, and protection from danger, illness, and sin, that we may be united on earth and in heaven. Amen.”

## Our Prayers

We continue with the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, followed by a series of Hail Marys invoking the Sacred Heart for grace, peace, and protection for each member of the family.

We then pray the Apostles’ Creed, affirming our faith in the Triune God, the incarnation, death, resurrection, and the communion of saints.

After the Creed we move into the rosary, praying the Glorious Mysteries: the Resurrection, the Ascension, the Descent of the Holy Spirit, the Assumption, and the Coronation of Mary. Each mystery is introduced with a short reflection and the Our Father, ten Hail Marys, and a Glory Be.

## Closing Prayer and Blessing

We conclude with a final prayer to the Sacred Heart, asking for forgiveness of sins, protection from the fires of hell, and the grace to follow Christ’s commandments. The prayer ends with the Hail Holy Queen, invoking Mary’s intercession for all the faithful.

“Lord Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, and lead our souls to heaven, especially those most in need of your mercy. Amen.”

## Final Thoughts

June is the month of the Sacred Heart, a reminder to place Christ’s love at the center of our homes. I encourage you to pray the rosary daily and to keep consecrating your family to the Sacred Heart. If you have questions, you can email me at w.r.young12@yahoo.com.

May God bless you and your family.

*Consecrating our families to the Sacred Heart draws us into Christ’s love and secures His protection over our homes.*
