# Wednesday Prayer for Souls in Purgatory
*2021-08-04*

> Bill and John pray for souls in purgatory, especially those who venerate God’s mercy, and lead the Litany of Divine Mercy before concluding with a traditional prayer for the suffering.

## Opening and Intent

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young and John O’Rourke welcoming you to Catholic Conscience 2.0. Today is Wednesday, August 4, 2021, and we are praying for the souls in purgatory, especially those awaiting the throne of glory. Our hope is to release a soul to heaven today.

## Wednesday Prayer for the Souls

Lord God Almighty, by the precious blood which You shed on the Cross, deliver to heaven the soul in purgatory, especially the soul which is yearning for the throne of glory which awaits it. May it be magnified and blessed forever. Amen.

## Prayer to St. Joseph

O glorious St. Joseph, husband of the Most Holy Mother, we venerate you and ask for your intercession. May we, through your protection, obtain the grace to grow in holiness and be worthy of Heaven. Amen.

## The Litany of Divine Mercy

We now pray the Litany of Divine Mercy, following the form given to St. Felicitas. Our response after each line is: “I trust in You.”

Lord, have mercy on us.
Christ, have mercy on us.
Lord, have mercy on us.

[The litany continues with the traditional invocations, each answered with “I trust in You.”]

## Closing Prayer

Eternal Father, whose mercy knows no bounds, increase your compassion in us so that in difficult moments we do not despair but submit ourselves with confidence to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.

We also recite the traditional prayer for the suffering: “O Jesus, we offer you our love for the conversion of sinners and for the reparations of offenses committed against the Sacred Heart of Mary, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, July 13, 1917.”

May all the souls we have prayed for be granted the light of Heaven. Amen.

*Through prayer we join with Christ’s mercy to aid the souls in purgatory and bring them to the joy of Heaven.*
