# Day Nine of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy: Praying for Lukewarm Souls
*2021-07-31*

> Bill and John celebrate the feast of St. Faustina, pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and reflect on the plight of lukewarm souls, asking for God's boundless mercy.

## Opening and Greetings

Good afternoon, this is Bill Young with John O’Rourke. Welcome to Catholic Conscience 2.0. Today we celebrate the feast of St. Faustina, whose birthday is today—happy belated birthday, St. Faustina! We’ll be praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and offering prayers for the souls in purgatory.

## Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

We begin with the traditional Monday prayer for the souls in purgatory:

"O God, Almighty, by the precious blood which Your Divine Son Jesus shed on the Cross, deliver the souls in purgatory, especially those nearest to the entrance into Your glory, that they may, without delay, give praise and bless You forever. Amen."

Then we recited the opening prayer of the Chaplet:

"O Jesus, Source of Life, fountain of mercy, pour out Your blood and water from the Heart of Jesus upon the whole world. I trust in You."

We continued with the Our Father, Hail Mary, Psalm 130 (De Profundis), and the Apostles’ Creed, each read alternately.

## The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

We took turns saying the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the ten Hail Holy Queens (the “beads” of the Chaplet). Each decade concluded with the prayer:

"Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, in union with all the souls in purgatory, for the sake of His sorrowful Passion. Have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen."

We repeated this prayer three times, invoking God’s endless compassion.

## Reflection on Lukewarm Souls (Day Nine)

Day nine of the Chaplet focuses on the souls who have become lukewarm—those who, during the pandemic, stopped attending Mass and fell away from the faith. Bill shared how many of his own family members fall into this category. He quoted St. Faustina’s diary:

"These souls are most painful to my heart. Their lukewarmness caused me to cry, ‘Father, take this cup from me.’ Yet the last hope of salvation is to run to Your mercy."

He offered a heartfelt prayer:

"Most compassionate Jesus, You are Compassion itself. Draw the lukewarm souls into the boat of Your merciful heart. In the fire of Your pure love, kindle a flame in those whose hearts have grown cold. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon them, that they may glorify the bounty of Your mercy. Amen."

Bill emphasized that no soul is beyond God’s power.

## Closing Prayers and Practical Blessings

We concluded with a short prayer for the unity of the Church, asking the Holy Trinity to heal divisions and guide us to true worship. Bill also offered a light‑hearted “computer prayer” for anyone struggling with technology, asking God for patience and assistance.

Finally, we said a brief sacrificial prayer for the conversion of sinners and thanked listeners for joining us.

*Even the lukewarm souls are never beyond the reach of Divine Mercy.*
