# Tuesday Purgatory Prayer and the Litany of Divine Mercy
*2021-07-13*

> Bill Young leads a solo devotional on July 13, 2021, offering the Tuesday indulgence prayer for souls in purgatory, the ordinary prayers of the day, and a heartfelt litany of Divine Mercy.

## Opening and Context

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today, July 13, 2021, marks the 104th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Fatima to the children of Portugal in 1917. Mary gave a special prayer for the conversion of sinners and reparation for offenses against her Immaculate Heart. John O’Rourke could not join me today because of a medical appointment, so I’m speaking alone.

## Tuesday Indulgence Prayer for Souls in Purgatory

God Almighty, by the precious blood of Your Son, which was shed on the Cross, deliver the souls in purgatory, especially those who are most afflicted, that they may not be delayed long before they enter Your glorious presence. Amen.

## Traditional Prayers of the Day

We begin with the opening prayer: “Lord Jesus, source of life, pour out Your mercy upon the whole world.”

Our Father: “Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”

Hail Mary: “Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Psalm 130 (De Profundis): “Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my supplications. If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, who could stand? Yet with you there is forgiveness, so I wait for the Lord, my soul waits for the Lord.”

Apostles’ Creed: “I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, sits at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

## Offering Prayer

Eternal Father, we offer You the Body and Blood of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, for the sins of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on all humanity. Amen.

## Litany of Divine Mercy

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Divine Mercy, source of all grace, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, incomprehensible mystery, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, flowing from the heart of Jesus, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, present in the sacraments, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, companion at the hour of death, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, healer of all souls, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, hope of the despondent, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, peace amid fear, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, crown of God’s work, I trust in You.
Divine Mercy, sweet relief for the afflicted, I trust in You.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

## Closing Prayer

Infinite God, whose mercy knows no bounds, look kindly upon us. Increase Your mercy in our hearts so that in difficult moments we do not despair but submit confidently to Your holy will, which is love itself. Amen.

*May we always trust in the boundless mercy of God, especially in our prayers for the souls in purgatory.*
