# Memorial Day Prayer and Chaplet of Divine Mercy
*2021-05-31*

> Bill Young and John O'Rourke lead a Memorial Day prayer for fallen soldiers and all souls in purgatory, followed by the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a litany, and a short sacrifice prayer.

## Memorial Day Prayer for the Fallen

Bill opens with a prayer for those who gave their lives for freedom, especially the souls in purgatory who fought for our country. He asks the Lord, by the precious blood of Jesus, to deliver these souls, particularly those nearest to the entrance of heaven, that they may begin to praise God forever. He emphasizes that their sacrifice made our freedom and religious liberty possible.

## Opening Prayers and the Apostles’ Creed

The hosts begin with the sign of the cross and a short invocation to the Source of Life, asking the ocean of mercy to flow over the world. They recite the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and a Psalm 130‑style prayer: “Lord, hear my voice; let my ears be attentive to my supplications… I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and I hope in His word.” They then proclaim the Apostles’ Creed, affirming belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, and the forgiveness of sins.

## Chaplet of Divine Mercy (Day Three)

Bill explains that today is the third day of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for all devoted and faithful souls. He prays that the merciful heart of the Eternal Father turn toward these souls, granting them blessings, protection, and the grace to remain steadfast in faith, surrounded by angels and saints.

## Litany of Divine Mercy

Together they recite the Litany of Divine Mercy as given by Saint Faustina, responding each line with “I trust in you.” The litany praises Divine Mercy as the source of life, the fountain from the wounds of Jesus, the hope of the dying, the shield from hell, and the comfort of all souls.

## Sacrifice Prayer

They conclude with a short sacrifice prayer attributed to Our Lady of Fatima (July 13, 1917): “O Jesus, for the love of You, for the conversion of poor sinners, and in reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we offer this prayer. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.”

## Closing Blessing

Bill thanks listeners, blesses all service members and their families who gave their lives and careers for freedom, mentions the various wars, and asks God to bless America and everyone listening. He wishes a safe and happy remainder of the Memorial Day.

*May the mercy of Christ bring the souls of our fallen heroes swiftly to the light of heaven.*
