# Chaplet of Divine Mercy and Prayers for the Souls
*2021-05-24*

> Bill Young and John O'Rourke lead a live Zoom session of Catholic Conscience 2.0, offering the Monday purgatory prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, a Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the fifth day, a litany of Divine Mercy, and a Fatima prayer for the sick.

## Opening and Monday Purgatory Prayer

Bill greets listeners and opens in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He leads the opening prayer:

“Lord Jesus, source of life and ocean of mercy, pour out your divine mercy upon the whole world. Blood and water flow from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us. We trust in you.”

He then prays the Monday purgatory prayer:

“Lord God Almighty, by the precious blood of your Son Jesus, deliver to purgatory the souls who have died in your mercy, especially those nearest to the entrance of your glory, that they may, without delay, begin to praise and bless you forever. Amen.”

## The Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles’ Creed

The hosts recite the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and then the Apostles’ Creed:

“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead, rose again, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

## Eucharistic Offering and Prayer for Mercy

Bill offers the Body and Blood of Christ, asking the Lord’s mercy for the whole world, repeatedly invoking the sorrowful passion of Jesus as a source of mercy.

“Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, for the sins of the world. For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.”

## Chaplet of Divine Mercy – Fifth Day for the Souls Who Have Separated from the Church

The fifth day of the Chaplet focuses on those who have separated themselves from the Church. Bill prays:

“Eternal Father, turn your merciful gaze upon the souls who have left your Son’s Church, who have squandered your blessings and persisted in error. Look upon their sins, but also upon the love of your Son and His bitter passion for them. May they be drawn back to the unity of the Church and glorify your great mercy for all ages. Amen.”

## Litany of Divine Mercy

Together they recite a litany, responding each line with “I trust in you.” Sample verses include:

“Divine Mercy, flowing from the bosom of the Father— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, the greatest attribute of God— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, fountain of life and happiness— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, source of miracles and wonders— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, descending to earth in the Incarnate Word— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, poured out from the wounds of Jesus— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, present in the sacraments and the Holy Church— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, shielding us from the fires of hell— I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, the hope of the despairing soul— I trust in you.”

## Fatima Prayer for the Sick

Bill concludes with the prayer given by Our Lady of Fatima on July 13, 1917, for those suffering in hospitals:

“Oh Jesus, we ask for the conversion of poor sinners and reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Bless all who are in hospitals, suffering from disease and pain, that they may be healed and find peace. God bless you all.”

*May we always trust in Divine Mercy, especially for those who have strayed from the Church.*
