# Saturday Prayer for the Faithful and the Souls in Purgatory
*2021-05-22*

> Bill Young leads a Saturday prayer service that includes the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, a special purgatorial prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, a Mass offering, and a litany of Divine Mercy.

## Opening and Chaplet of Divine Mercy

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
We begin with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, invoking the source of life and the fountain of mercy that flows from the blood and water of Jesus. “O Font of Life, Divine Mercy, pour out your grace upon the whole world; empty yourself upon us, O Blood and Water, which flow from the side of the Son, Jesus, the fountain of mercy for us. I trust in you.”

## Saturday Prayer for Souls in Purgatory

Lord God Almighty, by the precious blood which flowed from the side of Your Son, Jesus, we ask that You deliver the souls in purgatory, especially those among us who were most devoted to You, that they may soon attain Your glory and praise You forever. Amen.
We follow this with the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed, as usual, adding the special “Fundus” prayer: “Lord, hear my voice; let attentive ears receive my supplications. If You do not mark inequities, who shall stand? Yet in Your forgiveness we find fearlessness. I wait for the Lord; my soul waits, and I hope in His Word.”

## Apostles’ Creed and Mass Offering

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead, rose on the third day, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father, from whence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and for the sins of the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.

## Closing Prayer

Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and whose compassion knows no bounds, look kindly upon us. Fill us with Your mercy so that in difficult moments we do not despair but trust confidently in Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.
We conclude with a prayer for John O’Rourke’s swift recovery: “Lord Jesus, grant John speedy healing and bring him safely home.”
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

*May we always trust in Divine Mercy, especially for the souls in purgatory and for those in need of healing.*
