> Bill Young, John O'Rourke, and guests gather to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the third day of the Divine Mercy Novena on the feast of Our Lady of Fatima.

## Opening prayers and the chaplet

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young and John O'Rourke, and today joining us are Gabby and Eddie. Today is May 13, the feast day of Our Lady of Fatima. We begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

We start with the opening prayer: You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls in the ocean of mercy open up for the whole world. O fount of life and river of divine mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us. O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in You. I trust in You.

Following this, we pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed to prepare our hearts for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

## The chaplet of divine mercy

We move into the decades of the Chaplet. For each decade, we offer the prayer: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. We repeat this plea for mercy, centering our hearts on the sacrifice of Christ for the salvation of all humanity.

We conclude the Chaplet by repeating three times: Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world. We finish with the closing prayer, asking the Eternal God, whose mercy is endless, to look kindly upon us so that in difficult moments we may not despair, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is love and mercy itself.

## The novena to divine mercy

We now pray the third day of the Divine Mercy Novena. The reflection for today asks us to bring all the devout and faithful souls to the ocean of His mercy. These souls brought consolation to Jesus on the way to the Cross; they were drops of consolation in the midst of an ocean of bitterness.

Most Merciful Jesus, from the treasures of Your mercy, impart Your graces in great abundance to each of us, and receive us into the boat of Your most compassionate Heart. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the faithful souls and upon the inheritance of Your Son. For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, grant them Your blessings and surround them with constant protection, that they may never fall away from the holy faith, but rather, with all the hosts of angels and saints, glorify Your boundless mercies for endless ages.

## The litany of divine mercy

To conclude our prayer time, John leads us in the Litany of Divine Mercy. With the response "I trust in You," we acknowledge the various ways God's mercy manifests: as the source of life and happiness, as the force that creates the universe, and as the grace that flows from the open wound of the Heart of Jesus.

We pray for the mercy that founded the Holy Church, the mercy that accompanies us through Holy Baptism, and the mercy that sustains us throughout our moral lives and especially at the hour of death. We ask for the Divine Mercy to bring relief to anxious hearts and peace to the souls in purgatory.

*By uniting in the Chaplet and Novena, we entrust ourselves and the whole world to the boundless and compassionate mercy of Jesus Christ.*
