# Chaplet and novena to divine mercy
*2021-05-11*

> Bill Young, joined by John O'Rourke and Gabby, leads a communal prayer session featuring the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the first day of the Divine Mercy Novena, and the Litany of Divine Mercy.

## The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

We begin our prayer in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. We open with a prayer to Jesus, the source of life, asking that an ocean of mercy be opened for the whole world. Oh blood and water, which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy for us, I trust in you.

Following the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed, we move into the decades of the Chaplet. For each decade, we offer the prayer: 'Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.' We repeat this for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, begging for mercy upon us and the entire world.

## Concluding the Chaplet

To close the Chaplet, we proclaim three times: 'Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.'

We conclude with a closing prayer to the Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and whose treasures of compassion are inexhaustible. We ask that in difficult moments we may not despair or become despondent, but with great confidence, submit ourselves to His holy will, which is love and mercy itself.

## Novena to Divine Mercy: Day One

We now begin the first day of the Novena to Divine Mercy. The focus for today is: 'Bring me all mankind, especially all sinners, and immerse them in the ocean of my mercy.'

Most Merciful Jesus, Your very nature is to have compassion on us and to forgive us. Do not look upon our sins, but look upon the trust that we place in Your infinite goodness. Receive us all in the abode of Your most compassionate heart. Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon all mankind, especially upon the poor sinners, and enfold them in the most compassionate heart of Jesus.

## The Litany of Divine Mercy

Finally, we pray the Litany of Divine Mercy. In this litany, we acknowledge the various attributes of God's mercy, responding to each with the phrase, 'I trust in you.' We call upon the incomprehensible mercy of God, the mercy that is a source of hope for suffering souls, and the mercy that brings peace to the world. We conclude our time together in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

*We are called to place our absolute trust in the infinite goodness and compassion of Jesus' Divine Mercy, especially for the salvation of all sinners.*
