# Tuesday Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
*2021-04-25*

> Bill Young and John O'Rourke lead a live Zoom prayer, offering the Tuesday prayer for souls in purgatory, the ordinary prayers of the rosary, and the sixth day of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for meek and humble souls, especially little children.

## Welcome and Opening

Bill greets listeners and invites anyone joining the Zoom to participate. He notes that John and Gabby are present, and wishes John a quick recovery after his MRI. Bill explains that each day they offer a special prayer for the souls in purgatory, followed by the usual Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed, with an additional Psalm 130 (the "Fundament" prayer) before the Creed.

## Opening Prayer

Bill leads the opening prayer:

"O Source of Life, fountain of divine mercy, pour out your mercy upon the whole world. Blood and water, the fountain of mercy flowing from the heart of Jesus, we trust in you."

He then reads the Tuesday prayer for the souls in purgatory:

"O Lord, God Almighty, by the precious blood which your Son shed on the crown of thorns, deliver the souls in purgatory, especially those who are most afflicted, that they may be released from their pains and soon praise you in glory forever. Amen."

After this, the community prays the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed together.

## Traditional Prayers

The group recites the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles' Creed in the usual form, affirming the core of the Catholic faith before moving on to the chaplet.

## Chaplet of Divine Mercy – Sixth Day

Bill explains that today is the sixth day of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, dedicated to the meek and humble souls and the little children who have died, especially those who suffered from cancer. He offers a heartfelt meditation on how these souls resemble “earthly angels” and how Christ’s mercy is especially poured out upon them.

He then leads the chaplet, repeating the prayer after each decade:

"Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and for the whole world. For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

The refrain "Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world" is repeated three times after each decade.

## Litany of Divine Mercy

The participants recite a litany, responding after each line with "I trust in you." The litany praises Divine Mercy as the source of all grace, miracles, salvation, and protection, invoking its presence in the sacraments, the Church, and at the hour of death.

## Closing Prayer and Blessing

Bill concludes with a prayer asking God to increase His mercy in us, that we may never despair but trust in His holy will:

"Eternal God, whose mercy is endless, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we may not despair but submit with confidence to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen."

He thanks listeners, reminds them of the next live session at 3 p.m. tomorrow, and sends a blessing.

*May we continually entrust the meek, humble souls and all the suffering to the boundless mercy of Christ.*
