## Seeking mercy in a time of crisis

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the Prayer N Lunch podcast. Today is November 3rd, Election Day. We are going to be doing a special Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the election today, asking our Lord to help us in this time of major crisis in the United States. We return to you, Lord, and we know: Jesus, I trust in you.

## The opening prayers

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. We begin with an opening prayer: O Jesus, from whose side the source of life gushed forth for souls in the ocean of mercy, open up for the whole world. O fount of life and unfathomable divine mercy, invoke the whole world and empty yourself out upon us. O blood and water which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy, I trust in you.

We continue with the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Apostles' Creed to ground ourselves in our faith before entering the Chaplet.

## The chaplet and litany of divine mercy

Following the traditional beads, we pray: 'Eternal Father, I offer you the body and blood, soul and divinity of Your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.' On the smaller beads, we plead: 'For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.'

We conclude the Chaplet by praying three times: 'Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.'

We also pray the Litany of Divine Mercy given to St. Faustina, acknowledging the divine mercy that gushes forth from the bosom of the Father, the mercy that is the great attribute of God, and the mercy that accompanies us through our whole life and especially at the hour of death. To every invocation, we respond: I trust in you.

## The importance of prayer and gratitude

While it is important to stay informed and get the news, it is even more important to pray. Praying the Chaplet today is perhaps the most significant thing I could do to thank our Lord and tell Him, 'I trust in you, Jesus Christ.'

I am reminded of the story of the ten lepers. Our Lord cured all ten, but only one came back to thank Him. We cannot be like the nine; all of us need to come back to Him. He tells us that if we knock, the door shall be opened to us, but we must remember to be grateful for what He gives us.

*In times of national crisis, the most significant action a faithful person can take is to cast their trust in the Lord through prayer.*
