# The Promise of Jesus to St. Bridget of Sweden

## The Promise

St. Bridget of Sweden received a striking vision of the Passion. Jesus appeared to her and said, “On my body I received 5,480 blows. If you wish to honor them, say fifteen Our Fathers and fifteen Hail Marys together with the prayers I will teach you for a whole year.” He added that anyone who recites these prayers for a year will free fifteen souls of their relatives from purgatory, receive the first grade of perfection, and, fifteen days before death, be granted the precious body and blood of Christ to quench eternal hunger and thirst. He also promised forgiveness of sins, protection from temptation, preservation of the senses, and salvation for those who have lived in mortal sin for thirty years and pray these devotions.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the living God, accept this prayer with the same love with which you sustained the wounds of your holy body. Grant us your mercy, grace, forgiveness of sins, and eternal life, for us and for all the faithful. Amen.
