# Our Lady Has Already Crushed Satan’s Head – Reflections on St. Lucia of Fatima
*2020-05-12*

> Bill Young reflects on a striking image attributed to St. Lucia of Fatima, which declares that the final battle over marriage and the family has already been won because Our Lady has crushed Satan’s head.

## A surprising image

While researching pictures of the children of Fatima, I came across an image of Sister Lucia, now Saint Lucia of Fatima. The caption reads: “The final battle between the Lord and the reign of Satan will be about marriage and the family. Do not be afraid, because anyone who works for the sanctity of marriage and family will always be fought and opposed in every way. Because of this decisive issue, however, Our Lady has already crushed its head.” The last sentence caught my attention, recalling Revelation’s promise that the woman will crush the serpent’s head.

## What St. Lucia meant

St. Lucia, who later became a nun, reported a close, personal relationship with Mary and Jesus. In her writings she emphasizes that the defeat of Satan is not a future event awaiting us but a reality that has already occurred through Mary’s intercession. While the exact timing is mysterious, the image suggests that the victory is assured and already in effect.

## The battle over marriage and family

The caption identifies marriage and the family as the decisive issue of this final battle. Today we see cultural attacks on traditional marriage everywhere—same‑sex unions, gender‑confusion, and the erosion of the family unit. Those who defend the sanctity of marriage are often opposed and attacked, precisely as the image predicts.

## Why this matters now

If the defeat of Satan is already accomplished, then we can face the cultural storm with confidence. The “final score” is already decided: Satan will lose, and Mary has already crushed his head. This should give us hope and courage to stand firm for marriage and family, trusting that the ultimate victory is already secured.

## A call to prayer

On the anniversary of the 1917 apparition at Fatima, let us pray that the promise of Mary’s victory becomes evident in our lives sooner rather than later. May we be strengthened to defend marriage and family, knowing that the battle has already been won.

*Our Lady’s triumph over Satan is already a reality, giving us confidence to defend marriage and family today.*
