# The 3 o’clock Hour: Chaplet and Litany of Divine Mercy
*2020-03-16*

> In this episode Bill Young leads a 3 o’clock prayer hour, praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, the Apostles’ Creed, and a heartfelt litany invoking God’s endless compassion for souls who glorify His mercy.

## Opening Prayer and Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. It’s the 3 o’clock hour, so we begin with the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, especially for the sick, the dying, and all souls. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, we pray:

Lord Jesus, source of life, pour out your mercy upon the whole world. Fountain of blood and water flowing from your heart, we trust in you.

## The Our Father, Hail Mary, and Apostles’ Creed

We continue with the Our Father:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Prayer of Offering and Repeated Invocations of Mercy

Eternal Father, we offer you the body, blood, soul, and divinity of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of our sins and those of the whole world. May the sorrowful passion of Christ inspire us to seek mercy for all humanity.

[Repeated invocations of “For the sake of His sorrowful passion, have mercy on us in the whole world” were recited, emphasizing the endless mercy of the Father.]

## Litany of Divine Mercy

We then prayed a litany invoking Divine Mercy in many forms:

Divine Mercy, fountain gushing from the mystery of the Trinity, I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, beyond human or angelic understanding, I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, flowing through all life and happiness, I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, greater than heaven, I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, present in the sacraments, in the Holy Church, in baptism, in our justification, in the hour of death, and in the conversion of sinners, I trust in you.
Divine Mercy, source of our joy, lifting us from misery, comforting the despondent, I trust in you.
Amen.

## Closing Prayer and Reflection

Eternal Father, whose mercy is endless, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy within us, that in difficult moments we may not despair but submit with confidence to your holy will, which is love itself. Amen.

Today is day seven of the novena to Divine Mercy. I pray that souls who especially venerate and glorify God’s mercy may be immersed in that mercy, that they may become living images of Christ’s compassionate heart and shine brightly in the life to come.

*May the boundless mercy of Christ sustain us, especially in the hour of death, and inspire us to be instruments of that mercy to the world.*
