# The Living Rosary: Luminous Mysteries and Psalm 100
*2019-09-12*

> Bill Young leads the Thursday Living Rosary, praying the Luminous Mysteries, the Cantina prayer, and a reading of Psalm 100, while offering prayers for those in need.

## Opening and Intentions

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today, September 12, 2019, we pray the Living Rosary with the Luminous Mysteries, as St. John Paul II prescribed for Thursdays. After the Rosary we’ll pray the Cantina prayer of the Legion of Mary and read Psalm 100. I want to thank Sister Mildred of the Legion of Mary for requesting the Psalm. She is a talented spiritual sister who also speaks French and hopes to share prayers in other languages. If anyone can help with Spanish or other languages, please let me know.

## The Rosary: Apostles’ Creed, Our Father and Hail Marys

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I profess the Apostles’ Creed.

We begin with the first Hail Mary for love, especially for our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas who are still in need of food, water and aid.

Our Father.

The second Hail Mary is for hope, for those battling illness—Annette, Roger, and all who suffer.

The third Hail Mary is for peace, for the dying, for the souls in purgatory, and for the peace of every heart.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen.

## The Luminous Mysteries

1 – **The Baptism of Jesus** (Matt 3:16‑17). The Spirit descends like a dove; the Father proclaims, “This is my beloved Son.”

2 – **The Wedding at Cana** (John 2:5‑7). Mary’s intercession leads Jesus to turn water into wine.

3 – **The Proclamation of the Kingdom** (Matt 10:7‑8). “The kingdom of heaven is at hand; heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons.”

4 – **The Transfiguration** (Matt 17:2‑5). Christ’s glory shines; the voice from the cloud says, “This is my beloved Son.”

5 – **The Institution of the Eucharist** (Luke 22:19‑20). Jesus gives us His Body and Blood as the New Covenant.

After each mystery we recited the Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be.

## The Cantina Prayer

We then prayed the Cantina prayer of the Legion of Mary, invoking Mary as our Mother and Advocate, asking her intercession for all who seek the Lord’s mercy.

## Psalm 100 and Closing Prayer

Psalm 100: “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with singing. Know that the Lord is God; He made us, and we are His, the people of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him; bless His name, for the Lord is good; His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness to all generations.”

We concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving for the hurricane that passed without loss of life, and for the suffering of the Bahamian people, asking that governments and leaders show compassion and aid in rebuilding.

May the Lord grant us the grace to be the one who returns to thank Him, as the grateful leper did.

*May we, like the grateful leper, always return to thank God for His mercy and share His love with the world.*
