# The Living Rosary: Sorrowful Mysteries
*2019-08-05*

> Bill Young leads a recorded Living Rosary for the Sorrowful Mysteries, inviting listeners to pray the rosary while going about daily tasks and reflecting on recent tragedies.

## Opening Prayer

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Let us begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to hell, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Our Intentions

We begin with the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, offering prayers for peace in the world, for love toward neighbor and enemy, and for hope for those wounded by recent mass shootings. Each Hail Mary is followed by a petition for sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

## The First Sorrowful Mystery – The Agony in the Garden

We meditate on Christ’s deep sorrow in Gethsemane, where His sweat fell like drops of blood. He returned to find His disciples asleep. The fruit of this mystery is sorrow for sin.

We pray the Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be, asking God to forgive our sins and lead us to heaven, especially those most in need of mercy.

## The Second Sorrowful Mystery – The Scourging at the Pillar

We contemplate the brutal scourging of Jesus, the fruit of this mystery being purity. Again we pray the Our Father, a Hail Mary, and a Glory Be, seeking forgiveness and protection from evil.

## The Third Sorrowful Mystery – The Crowning with Thorns

We reflect on the mockery of Christ’s crown of thorns, the fruit of this mystery being courage. The familiar prayers follow, invoking God’s mercy for all sinners.

## The Fourth Sorrowful Mystery – The Carrying of the Cross

We consider Christ’s bearing of the cross to Calvary, the fruit of this mystery being patience. The Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be are recited, pleading for forgiveness and deliverance.

## The Fifth Sorrowful Mystery – The Crucifixion

We meditate on Jesus’ death on the cross, the fruit of this mystery being reverence. The concluding prayers ask for God’s forgiveness, protection from the fires of hell, and the salvation of souls.

## Final Prayer and Reflection

We end with the Hail Holy Queen, asking Mary, Mother of Mercy, to intercede for us, especially for the victims of the recent shootings in Texas and Ohio and for all who suffer. Bill reflects on the reality of free will, the presence of evil, and the rosary as a powerful weapon against Satan’s attacks. He encourages listeners to use the recorded rosary while driving, exercising, or doing housework, praying along even without holding the beads.

He closes with a prayer for the families who lost loved ones and for the injured, asking God’s blessing and protection.

*The rosary, prayed in the midst of daily life, equips us to confront suffering and evil with hope, patience, and courage.*
