## Opening Thoughts

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. I hope everyone enjoyed Mother’s Day and that you had a chance to join the May 13th consecration for Our Lady of Fatima. Today’s topic is controversial but, for me, a clear‑cut matter of faith: the protection of unborn children.

## Why Abortion Is Not a Choice

I was watching a Nightline segment that presented a 17‑year‑old mother who, despite a traumatic pregnancy, was denied an abortion and gave birth to a child who survived. The program framed abortion as “evil” and linked it to Satan. That is the truth: abortion is the taking of a human life, which the Church teaches is murder.

Friends who have had abortions often tell me they regret it deeply because they recognize the life they ended. In one case, a boyfriend pressured his girlfriend into an abortion for selfish reasons, and she now lives with the pain of that decision. While I understand that a mother’s life may be in danger and that such cases require compassionate medical judgment, every other situation involves a human being with a soul.

My own family knows the pain of infertility. My wife miscarried three times before a prayerful rosary helped us welcome a healthy child. That experience reminds me how precious each life is.

## The Cultural and Political Landscape

The public debate is often dominated by wealthy, white women who have the resources to travel to states where abortion remains legal. This creates a false impression that abortion is a universal right. The Constitution does not grant a right to kill; the Fifth Commandment says, “Thou shalt not kill,” which includes the unborn.

Catholic politicians who publicly support abortion, such as certain members of Congress, should be urged to reconsider their stance. The Church has always taught that receiving Holy Communion requires adherence to its moral teachings.

## Prayer for the Unborn and for Healing

Jesus promises mercy to those who repent. Women who have had abortions can be forgiven if they turn to Christ, acknowledge their mistake, and seek reconciliation.

Let us now pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for all unborn souls and for those who have been involved in abortion:

*Most merciful Jesus, from the treasures of Your mercy pour out Your graces upon all who are in need. Receive us into the shelter of Your compassionate heart. May we never stray from the faith, but join the angels and saints in glorifying Your boundless mercy forever. Amen.*

We also pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Apostles’ Creed, offering our hearts to the suffering Christ.

## A Call to Action

We must speak out against the media’s one‑sided coverage, write to our state legislators, and support leaders who defend life, such as those in Alabama and Florida. Pray for an end to the killing of unborn children, especially those from vulnerable communities. Let us remember that every life, regardless of race or circumstance, matters.

*Protecting the unborn is a matter of faith, mercy, and courageous action.*
