# Day Nine of the{Divine Mercy} Novena: Prayer for Lukewarm Souls and the Chaplet
*2019-04-27*

> Bill Young reflects on the ninth day of the Divine Mercy Novena, praying for those whose faith has grown lukewarm and leading listeners through the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

## Opening

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today is Easter Saturday, a quiet time after returning from work. We continue with the Divine Mercy Novena, day nine, which focuses on souls that have become lukewarm in their faith.

## Prayer for Lukewarm Souls

Most Compassionate Jesus, you are the source of endless mercy. I bring before you those who have grown lukewarm, whose hearts are like corpses filled with deep loathing. In the fire of your pure love, rekindle them. Exercise the power of your mercy and draw them into the very adoration of your love. Grant them the gifts of your holy love, for nothing is beyond your power. Eternal Father, turn your merciful gaze upon these souls, enfolded in the compassion of Jesus. By the passion of your Son and the agony of the Cross, let them glorify the abyss of your mercy. Amen.

## The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Opening Prayer:
O Blood and Water, which flowed from the Heart of Jesus as a fountain of mercy, we trust in you.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed (abridged): I believe in God the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell, rose again on the third day, and now sits at the right hand of the{Father}. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Our Father (offered for the Body and Blood of Christ

Eternal Father, we offer you the Body, Blood, soul, and divinity of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, for the remission of our sins and those of the whole world. For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Amen.

(Repeated invocations of “For the sake of his sorrowful passion, have mercy on us in the whole world” were recited as part of the Chaplet.)

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us.

## Closing Prayer and Reflections

Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and whose compassion knows no limits, look kindly upon us. Increase your mercy in us during difficult moments so that we may not despair but, with confidence, submit ourselves to your holy will, which is love and mercy itself. Amen.

Tomorrow is Divine Mercy Sunday. After completing the 33‑day novena, we will be consecrated to Divine Mercy. I will attend the 12:30 Mass at St. David’s Catholic Church, followed by adoration at St. Gregory in Plantation (1:15–2:15 p.m.) and confessions. I hope many will join in these blessings.

*May we all turn to the boundless mercy of Christ, especially those whose faith has grown lukewarm.*
