# The New Civil War: A Catholic Call to Protect the Unborn
*2019-02-20*

> Bill Young discusses the cultural battle over abortion, likening it to a new civil war, and leads a rosary prayer for the unborn.

## A New Civil War

I begin by noting that the original Civil War was fought over slavery, a grave injustice against human beings. Today, I see a similar moral conflict: the systematic killing of unborn children. Politicians who claim to be Catholic—such as Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden—advocate for laws that would allow abortion up to birth. This is, in my view, a profound betrayal of the Gospel’s teaching that every human life is sacred from conception.

The law often treats the death of a mother and her unborn child as a single homicide, yet it permits the act when the mother consents. I have heard many women who regret their abortions for decades, often because they were pressured by partners or family. The choice is rarely free.

Satan delights in death; he is the source of death itself, not God. Therefore, the Church must speak loudly against politicians who support abortion and demand that they change their ways or face ecclesial consequences.

## Political Reality and the Need for Action

The United States is divided. Sixteen states oppose the border wall, yet many of those same states have Democratic leaders accused of sexual misconduct. I see a pattern: a desire for total control, reminiscent of the slave‑holding past. The Republican Party, beginning with Abraham Lincoln, stood against slavery; today, I believe it stands for the protection of unborn life.

I pray that leaders such as Pelosi and Biden might be moved to repentance. I ask the Lord to bring them to their knees and to grant them true conversion. The protection of the unborn, I contend, is the most urgent moral issue facing our nation.

## Rosary for the Unborn

We now pray the Rosary, focusing on the Luminous Mysteries, for the unborn and for those who have had abortions. We begin with the Apostles’ Creed, then offer Hail Marys for hope, love, peace, and forgiveness. Each mystery reminds us of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, and of the Holy Spirit’s work in the world.

I ask the Holy Mother to intercede for mothers who are pregnant, for women who have had abortions, and for all who are suffering. May the grace of the Holy Spirit bring repentance, healing, and a renewed respect for life.

We conclude each set of prayers with the Our Father, the Glory Be, and a heartfelt plea for God’s mercy.

## Upcoming Events and Invitations

Looking ahead, we have two major initiatives: a Divine Mercy Sunday retreat using the book *33 Days of Merciful Love*, and a consecration to Mary on May 13, the feast of Our Lady of Panamón. I encourage listeners to join these spiritual practices, to support the weekly podcast of Fr. Chris Marion, and to consider the 25 % group discount on Marian.org.

Please feel free to email me with comments or prayer requests at wryoung@yahoo.com. May God bless you, and please continue to pray for the unborn.

*The protection of unborn life is a moral battle that demands prayer, conversion, and courageous action.*
