# Prayers for the California Fires
*2018-11-16*

> Bill Young leads a Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Litany of Divine Mercy, praying for those affected by the Southern California wildfires and for all souls in need of God’s mercy.

## Opening Intentions

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. We begin by praying for the souls who are suffering, especially those who have lost loved ones, homes, or even their lives in the recent California fires. May they find consolation in Christ, the only true treasure, and may those who do not yet know Him be drawn to His love.

## Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus, source of all life, pour forth your mercy upon the whole world. Fountain of divine compassion, empty yourself upon us, O Blood and Water that flow from the Heart of Jesus. We trust in you.

## The Our Father and Hail Mary

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Chaplet of Divine Mercy

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of your beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, as atonement for our sins and for the sins of the whole world. For the sake of His Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Repeat the invocation three times as the chaplet is prayed.)

## Litany of Divine Mercy

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us.
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us.

## Closing Prayer

Eternal God, whose mercy is endless and whose treasury of compassion is inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy within us. In difficult moments may we not despair but place our confidence in your holy will. Amen.

*May the boundless mercy of Christ bring comfort to those suffering from the fires and strengthen our trust in His everlasting love.*
