# Day 25 – Mary’s Retreat at the Wedding at Cana
*2018-05-03*

> Bill reflects on the second day of Mary’s retreat, meditating on the wedding at Cana and St. John Paul II’s insights about Mary’s role as mother and intercessor, and invites listeners to consecrate themselves to her.

## Opening Prayer

Lord, we ask that your Holy Spirit works through Mary’s powerful intercession in every need of our lives. Amen.}}

## The Wedding at Cana

Yesterday we began a “retreat within a retreat” by entering Mary’s retreat. Today we continue with the wedding feast at Cana (John 2:1‑12). Mary notices that the wine has run out and brings the need to Jesus. He replies, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” Yet Mary tells the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” The servants fill the jars with water, Jesus turns it into wine, and the disciples believe in him.

St. John Paul II explains that this miracle reveals a new dimension of Mary’s motherhood: not merely a fleshly role, but a spiritual motherhood that brings humanity’s deepest needs to her Son. By placing herself between Christ and mankind, Mary acts as a true mediator, pointing out humanity’s needs so that the salvific power of the Messiah may be manifested.

## Key Points from St. John Paul II

1. **Mary’s unique role** – As the Mother of God, she has the right to present humanity’s needs to her Son.
2. **Obedient service** – Mary calls the servants to obey Jesus: “Do whatever he tells you.” We are invited to be her servants, ready to follow Christ’s will.
3. **Union with Christ’s mediation** – Mary’s intercession always points back to Christ. Her mediation is a participation in the one mediation of Jesus, the Savior.

## Personal Reflection

I recently shared that my little bird had died and “went to heaven.” The response on social media was overwhelming; many people were moved by the simple, sincere prayer. It reminded me that God cares for even the smallest of our needs, and Mary intercedes for us in those moments.

*By imitating Mary’s faithful obedience, we open ourselves to Christ’s salvific power in the everyday needs of our lives.*
