# Day 2 Questions – St. Louis de Montfort
*2018-04-10*

> Bill Young continues the 33‑day Morning Glory retreat by sharing the Angelus and posing four reflective questions on St. Louis de Montfort’s influence, detachment, and books that shaped his faith.

## Opening Prayer – The Angelus

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, and she was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord. Be it done unto me according to thy word. Hail Mary… (repeated three times as in the traditional Angelus).

## Why We’re Doing These Questions

The questions are meant for listeners who may not yet have the printed book, for those whose first language isn’t English, and for older listeners who might have difficulty reading. By posting the questions online we hope everyone can participate in the retreat.

## Question 1 – Responding to Disappointment

St. Louis de Montfort once saw a massive monument he had helped build destroyed. He addressed the crowd, “Let us build it in our hearts; blessed be God.”

Bill asks: What was your reaction to that story? Have you ever experienced a severe disappointment in something you thought pleased God, yet still managed to bless God despite the setback?

## Question 2 – Detaching from What Holds Us Back

Marian consecration calls us to entrust ourselves completely to Mary so she can bring us to Jesus. In union with the Holy Spirit, we must learn to let go of the habit of doing everything ourselves.

Bill asks: What is the first thing you need to become detached from? Will it be difficult? Will it take time?

## Question 3 – Books That Shaped Our Faith

Pope John Paul II called reading the “Montfortian” book a decisive turning point in his life.

Bill asks: Which one or two books (besides the Bible) have had a decisive influence on your spiritual life, career, relationships, or vocation? Would you recommend them as gifts?

## Question 4 – Choosing a Spiritual Mentor

At least six popes were influenced by the teachings of St. Louis de Montfort.

Bill asks: If you could choose any person—living, dead, or future—to influence your life, who would it be and why?

## Closing Prayer

Come, O Holy Spirit, living in Mary, prepare me to give myself fully to this true and solid devotion. Amen.

*Detaching from our own will and allowing the Holy Spirit, through Mary, to shape us leads to deeper devotion and transformation.*
