# Mary, Tower of David – The Legion of Mary
*2017-11-08*

> Bill Young explains why Mary is called the Tower of David, shares a prayer invoking her protection, and updates listeners on the upcoming 10th‑anniversary celebration of the Prayer and Lunch podcast.

## Why Mary Is Called the Tower of David

The title “Tower of David” comes from the Song of Songs (4:4): “Thy neck is like the tower of David, built with turrets.” The tower that King David built in Jerusalem rose above all other structures, giving a clear view of the surrounding country and allowing the watchful to spot any enemy. In the same way, Mary, the daughter of David, excels all angels and men in dignity and sanctity. As the tower protected the city, Mary protects us, standing firm against the attacks of the devil.

## A Prayer to Mary, Our Spiritual Tower

Lord, we beg You to help us through the prayers of Your most holy Mother, whose Rosary we honor. May we draw strength from the mysteries we reverence and obtain the fruits of the sacraments we have received. Mary, Tower of David, you are strong and well‑defended; the devil cannot prevail against you. By the grace that preserved you from original sin, you stand ready to crush the head of the serpent (Genesis 3:15). Help us, like you, to be watchful over our hearts, senses, and surroundings, to resist temptation, and to place our confidence wholly in God. May we, through your intercession, be protected from all evil and victorious in the spiritual battle.

## Podcast Updates and Invitation

I apologize for the brief outage caused by a banking security change; the show is now back online. On November 21st we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Prayer and Lunch with a special program—details are still being planned, and I welcome ideas, interviews, or anyone who wishes to join in prayer. Also, remember that the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary is October 17th; we will be praying the mysteries today, Wednesday, November 8th.

*Mary, as the Tower of David, offers us a steadfast refuge; by turning to her we gain the spiritual armor needed to overcome the devil’s attacks.*
