# Prayer in Time of Temptation by St. Albert the Great
*2017-08-11*

> Bill Young leads listeners in a prayer composed by St. Albert the Great for protection against temptation, especially during times of penance.

## Introduction

Good morning. This is Bill Young, and welcome to Catholic Podcast Ministries’ Prayer & Lunch. Today we will pray the “Prayer in Time of Temptation” written by St. Albert the Great.

## The Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, who has led me into the desert of penance, protect me so that I do not succumb to the tempter. May my pride not undermine my dignity as a child of God, nor keep me away from the rigors of penance. With Your word of truth, transform the rigors of penance, which the tempter calls “stones,” into bread, turning those temptations into prayers. May the tempter not set me upon a pedestal of the temple to make me believe I am superior to others. May he not cast me down with false humility. Let the tempter not test the Lord through acts of impatience that exhaust my physical strength and expose me to danger. May the tempter not lead me to a mountain of vision where, in the sight of greed, I would pay him homage, bending the knees of my heart, will, and mind. Drive far away from me all things that are opposed to You, so that I may adore and serve You alone, my Lord. May the tempter be kept at bay by Your angels, who surround me, guide me from evil, and sustain me until the end. Amen.

## Closing

May God bless you and keep you safe from all temptations today.

*St. Albert’s prayer reminds us that true humility and reliance on Christ’s word transform the trials of penance into spiritual nourishment.*
