# Chaplet and Litany of the Most Precious Blood
*2017-07-01*

> Bill Young leads the Chaplet of the Most Precious Blood followed by the Litany, reflecting on the passion of Christ and the feast of St. Junípero Serra on July 1.

## Opening and Context

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today, July 1, we begin with the Chaplet of the Most Precious Blood, fitting for the 3 o’clock hour. July is dedicated to the Precious Blood of our Lord, shed on the Cross, which raised us from the dead and now reigns at the right hand of the Father.

## The Chaplet of the Most Precious Blood

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen.

Lord, come to my aid. Lord, make haste to help me. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

We begin each mystery with the prayer: “We beseech you, O Lord, to come to the aid of your children whom you have redeemed by your precious blood.”

**First Mystery – The Blood Shed at the Garden of Gethsemane**
Jesus, Son of God, for the first drops of your blood shed for our salvation, grant us the courage to confront sin with faith. Our Father… (Our Father, three Hail Marys, Glory Be).

## The Six Remaining Mysteries

Each mystery follows the same pattern: a brief petition invoking the specific event of Christ’s Passion, the Our Father, three Hail Marys, and Glory Be. The mysteries cover:
1. Jesus’ sweat of blood in the garden.
2. The blood shed at the scourging at the pillar.
3. The blood shed in the crowning with thorns.
4. The blood shed on the way to Calvary.
5. The blood shed on the Cross.
6. The blood poured out when the side was pierced.

Each concludes with the doxology: “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

## Concluding Prayers

Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, save us. We invoke the Blood of Christ in its many salvific powers—purifying, protecting, and granting forgiveness. We pray:

Father, through the precious blood of your only‑begotten Son, you have redeemed all people. May we continue to receive your mercy and obtain the fruits of redemption. Amen.

## Feast of St. Junípero Serra and Closing Thoughts

Today is also the feast of St. Junípero Serra, canonized two years ago when Pope Francis visited Washington, D.C. I was blessed to be there with fellow parishioners from the Archdiocese of Miami. Let us pray for his intercession on this feast day.

*May the Precious Blood of Christ continually draw us into deeper repentance, mercy, and love.*
