# Holy Trinity Sunday: Consoling the Heart of Jesus

## Celebrating the Holy Trinity

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today is Holy Trinity Sunday, June 11, 2017. Our bulletin reminds us of John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This mystery of one God in three Persons is the foundation of our faith and the heart of today’s reflections.

## St. Boniface and Our Mission

The feast day of St. Boniface also falls on this date. Boniface, a Jewish friend of St. Paul, introduced Paul to the apostles and helped spread the Gospel. We ask St. Boniface to intercede for us, that we may love Jesus more deeply and that, through the Holy Spirit, those who have not yet believed may come to know Christ as the Son of God.

## The “Consoling the Heart of Jesus” Retreat

We are preparing a new retreat called “Consoling the Heart of Jesus,” led by Fr. Michael Gately. The kit—books, DVDs, and a cheat‑sheet—will be available soon at heartsoffire.org. Once we have the materials, we will begin the retreat here in Davie, Florida, and anyone can join remotely by ordering the kit.

The cheat‑sheet outlines the retreat’s three promises:
1. Live by the principle of consoling Jesus with Mary, giving Him our trust and performing acts of mercy in three degrees—deeds, words, and prayer (including the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Breathing Prayer).
2. Keep a daily schedule of prayers: the Morning Offering, the 3 o’clock Prayer, and an Examination of Conscience called “BAKER.”
3. Frequently receive the sacraments—daily Mass when possible, regular confession, and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

## Daily Prayers and the BAKER Examination

The Morning Offering we will pray today is:

“Dear Jesus, I know your Sacred Heart is sorrowful because many do not love or trust you. Behold, Lord, here I am, weak and sinful, yet I love you and place all my actions today in the service of consoling you. May my prayers, deeds, and words bring mercy to my neighbor as I seek to console your heart.”

The 3 o’clock Prayer focuses on the Passion, thanking Jesus for the blood and water that flow from His heart as a font of mercy.

The BAKER Examination of Conscience stands for:
B – Blessings (praise God for the day’s gifts)
A – Ask (invite the Holy Spirit to reveal our sins)
K – Kill (recognize how our sins “kill” Christ)
E – Embrace (sorrow for sin and accept Jesus’ mercy)
R – Resolve (plan for the next day).

## Closing Prayer and Invitation

We concluded with the traditional prayers of the Rosary, the Apostles’ Creed, and a heartfelt petition for mercy on behalf of the whole world. I invite you to join us in this retreat, to pray the daily prayers, and to share the love of Jesus with all, especially those who have not yet heard the Gospel.

*By trusting Jesus and extending mercy to others, we truly console the Heart of Christ.*
