# My Promise to Our Lady – A Chaplet of the Sacred Heart
*2017-06-03*

> Bill Young celebrates completing his Legion of Mary probation, shares a fragrant Marian sign, and leads listeners through a Chaplet of the Sacred Heart and a short prayer to the Adorable Heart of Jesus.

## A Milestone in the Legion of Mary

I’m delighted to announce that I have finished the three‑month probation period in the Legion of Mary. The promise we make on the first day—to pray the Legion’s chaplet—has been a source of great grace. My brothers and sisters in the Legion gathered with me, and our president captured a photo of the prayer. It was a beautiful moment of communal prayer.

## A Sweet Sign from Mary

This morning, while helping my wife in the backyard, we were both struck by a heavenly, rose‑like fragrance. The garden plants themselves have no scent, and the neighbors could not have been the source. I’m convinced it was a sign from Our Lady, though I kept that thought to myself.

## Chaplet of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

We began with the traditional Chaplet of the Sacred Heart, originally prayed by St. Padre Pio. After the opening doxology, we recited the Apostles’ Creed:

“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord… I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.”

Then we prayed for my son Gregory, asking that he return to the Lord, and continued with the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be, each time invoking the Sacred Heart’s mercy and love.

## Prayer to the Adorable Heart of Jesus

The second prayer was a short devotion called “O Adorable Heart of Jesus.” I asked the Heart of Jesus to be my refuge and hope, the remedy for all my ills, and the source of peace and strength. I placed my trust in His infinite love, pleading for His mercy and protection for myself and my family.

## Saint of the Day: St. Charles Lwanga and Companions

June 3rd commemorates St. Charles Lwanga and his companions, the Ugandan martyrs who died in 1886 for their faith. Their witness reminds us of the courage required to stand firm in Christ. I asked for their intercession for my son Gregory, my wife Pat, my mother, and all my brothers and sisters in the Legion of Mary.

## First Saturday Devotions and Parish Plans

I encouraged listeners to keep the First Saturday devotion promised by Our Lady in 1925: confession, five decades of the Rosary, and a quarter‑hour of meditation. I hope our parish, St. David’s in Davie, Florida, can gather for a communal Rosary after the 5 p.m. Mass, fulfilling Mary’s promise of grace at the hour of death for those who observe the first five consecutive Saturdays.

*Faithful devotion, whether in the Legion of Mary or the First Saturday promises, opens us to the graces of the Sacred Heart and the loving intercession of Our Lady.*
