# Sharing in Christ’s Glory – Reflections on the Transfiguration
*2017-03-12*

> Bill Young reflects on the Second Sunday of Lent, the transfiguration of Christ, and how we are called to share in His glory, while also praying for a Romanian woman in need.

## A Lenten Reflection on Generosity

Yesterday’s reflection from Pope Francis’ Lent: A Time of Grace focused on giving alms to alleviate hardship. I was reminded of Mother Teresa’s example and felt the challenge to live that generosity.

## Encounter with a Romanian Woman

After the service I met a young woman holding a sign. She told me she was from Romania, out of work, and her family needed rent money. I gave her what I could and prayed for her family’s needs, asking God to provide a job and the means to keep a roof over their heads.

## The Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus

The story reminded me of the rich man in the purple robe who ignored the beggar Lazarus. After death the rich man begged for relief, but the chasm between heaven and hell could not be crossed. It made me think of the woman’s situation and the importance of responding to those in need while we are still on earth.

## The Transfiguration and Our Call to Glory

Today’s Gospel (Matt 17:5) recounts the Transfiguration: a cloud envelops Jesus, the Father’s voice declares, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.” Peter, James, and John receive a foretaste of Christ’s glory, preparing them for the cross. In this Lenten season we are invited to deepen our conversion and to share in that glory through love, prayer, and sacrifice.

## Prayer and the Sorrowful Mysteries

We prayed the Rosary, meditating on the five Sorrowful Mysteries—Agony in the Garden, Scourging at the Pillar, Crowning with Thorns, Carrying the Cross, and the Crucifixion—asking for the fruits of sorrow, purity, courage, penance, and perseverance. Each mystery calls us to unite our own suffering with Christ’s for the salvation of souls.

## Intercessions

We concluded with intercessory prayers for the souls of Fr. Frank Duff and Adele Quinn, for my family, for the homeless, and for all who seek God’s mercy.

*In this season of Lent, we are called to let Christ’s glory transform us, so that we may love and serve those in need with the same generosity the Gospel demands.*
