# Blessed Are the Peacemakers: Reflections on the Beatitudes and a Holy Spirit Rosary
*2016-12-28*

> Bill Young reflects on the Beatitude “Blessed are the peacemakers,” urges us to be peacemakers in our families, offers a brief commentary on the refugee issue, and leads a special rosary devoted to the Holy Spirit.

## Opening Thoughts

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today’s Gospel reading presented the eight Beatitudes, and I want to focus on the promise to the peacemakers: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” I’ll also share a special rosary for the Holy Spirit.

## The Beatitude of the Peacemaker

Our priest‑celebrant explained that the peacemakers are not only those working on the world stage in the Middle East, but also each of us in our own families. Many of us have relatives who have fallen out of touch—parents and children, siblings, cousins—often over misunderstandings that seem small in hindsight. The Beatitude calls us to try, even if we fear failure, because God values the effort to reconcile. We are invited to forgive, to reach out, and to become the bridge that restores love, knowing that we will be called children of God.

## A Brief Note on Refugees

I also wanted to address the current news about refugees. While I believe we should welcome those in genuine need, I think it is essential that proper vetting occurs for the safety of all. The situation in Sweden, for example, has raised concerns about security and the potential for abuse of migration pathways. This is a complex issue that calls for prayerful discernment and compassionate, responsible policies.

## Rosary for the Holy Spirit

Now let us pray the rosary dedicated to the Holy Spirit. The prayers repeat a simple petition: “Come, Holy Spirit, divine power of love; fill my poor heart, purify it, sanctify it, and make it all yours.” Between each set of ten Hail Marys we recite the Our Father, offering ourselves to the Spirit’s guidance, strength, and comfort. The rosary concludes with the Apostles’ Creed, affirming our faith in the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

(Full text of the rosary omitted for brevity.)

## Conclusion

It’s raining here in South Florida, but I pray that the light of the Holy Spirit shines into your heart today. Thank you for listening to Prayer in Lunch on Block Talk Radio.

*Being a peacemaker begins at home; when we reconcile with our own family, we become true children of God.*
