## Introducing the Novena

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today we celebrate the feast of St. Lucy, patron of the blind, with a special novena. I found a beautiful prayer on Twitter and want to share it so we can pray together for nine days.

## The Novena Prayer to St. Lucy

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

O St. Lucy, you preferred to have your eyes torn out rather than deny the faith or defile your soul. By God’s extraordinary mercy He gave you a new pair of sound and perfect eyes to reward your virtue and faith. Appointed as protector against eye disease, I come to you to protect my eyesight and heal any illness in my eyes.

O St. Lucy, preserve the light of my eyes so that I may see the beauties of creation—the glow of the sun, the colors of the flowers, and the smiles of children. Preserve also the eyes of my soul, that through faith I may know God, understand His teachings, recognize His love, and never lose the road that leads to Him.

St. Lucy, you are ever in the company of angels and saints. Protect my eyes and preserve my faith. Amen.

## Traditional Prayers

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

## Closing Invocation

Glorious St. Lucy, virgin and martyr, you glorified the Lord by preferring to sacrifice your life rather than be unfaithful. Come to our aid; through the love of our most merciful Lord, save us from all eye infirmities and the danger of losing sight. Through your powerful intercession, may we live in the peace of the Lord, seeing Him with transfigured eyes in eternal splendor. Amen.

St. Lucy, pray for us and for all who are most in need. Amen.
