# All Saints’ Day Litany of the Saints
*2016-10-31*

> Bill Young leads a prayer for All Saints’ Day, beginning with a personal prayer, then reciting a litany invoking the Holy Trinity, angels, prophets, apostles, martyrs, saints, and the Church, followed by petitions for the world and the faithful.

## Opening Prayer

Good afternoon, this is Bill Young. Today is Sunday, November 1st, the Solemnity of All Saints. I’ll begin with a short prayer I received from friends John Paul and Anna:

“Dear God, thank you for the example of the saints. I desire to join their company worshiping you forever in heaven. Help me follow their footsteps and yours, Jesus Christ. Help me conform my life to your image, seeking your will in all things as the saints did. May I devote everything I do to your glory and the service of my neighbors. Amen.”

## Purpose of the Litany

The litany we are about to pray invokes Christ and the saints for our needs. While the exact wording can vary by diocese, parish, or community, the structure remains the same: a Trisagion invoking the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, followed by petitions to the saints, and concluding with our own petitions.

## Petitions to Christ

Lord, save your people from all evil.
Lord, save your people from sin, from Satan’s power, from everlasting death, and on the day of judgment.
Lord, save your people through your suffering on the cross, your death and resurrection, and your return in glory.
Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on us. You who came into the world, were crucified, died for us, descended into hell, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return to judge the living and the dead—have mercy on us.

## Our Needs and Intercessions

Lord, hear our prayers:
• Grant true conversion and the fruits of the earth to those who labor.
• Give mercy, raise our hearts to heavenly desires, and protect us from eternal death.
• Provide eternal rest for the faithful departed.
• Relieve hunger, war, and disaster; bring justice and peace to the world.
• Comfort and enlighten the Holy Church.
• Protect Pope Francis, Bishop Thomas, all clergy, especially Father Jeff McCorman, and send new laborers into the harvest.
• Grant unity, faith, and truth to all Christians.
• Safeguard our parish, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and our bishop, Thomas Wittke.
• Bless every home and family, especially the youth and my son Gregory.
• Defend those persecuted for righteousness, and pray for the peoples of Syria, Iraq, and the Middle East.
• Restore exiles to their homelands, comfort the sick and suffering, and grant the joy of the Kingdom to all the deceased.

Christ, hear us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.

O God, our refuge and strength, accept the humble prayers of the Church. May we obtain what we faithfully ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.

*May the intercession of the saints inspire us to live holy lives and bring us closer to Christ’s mercy.*
