# Biased media and the protection of the unborn

> Bill Young discusses the lack of neutrality in major media coverage of the 2016 election and emphasizes the critical importance of protecting the unborn.

## The failure of media neutrality

I am a Roman Catholic, but I don't speak for the Church; I'm an independent person, and I believe in the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I am not confined to be neutral because I study the facts. I believe the current state of the media is hurting our two-party system. While I applaud the First Amendment right to freedom of the press, that freedom comes with a deep responsibility. You aren't allowed to scream 'fire' in a theater, and similarly, the press should not be spreading biases or falsehoods in the political world.

If you listen to the debates and the subsequent analysis, it is obvious that the major networks—ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and the New York Times—are not reporting both sides. They have already chosen who they want as president. For example, there was no mention of the $7 billion lost during Mrs. Clinton's time as Secretary of State. If a Republican had been responsible, there would be an outcry and they would have been thrown out of office. The media focuses on things from 30 years ago rather than current issues like deleted emails or the tragedy in Libya.

## Concerns regarding the Clinton Foundation

I have seen videos of people in Haiti who believe the Clinton Foundation did not distribute funds correctly. Billions of dollars were controlled by the foundation, yet much of it seemingly went to political hacks. If you look at Haiti today, it is still a disaster. I have to ask: what did the Clinton Foundation actually do to improve Haiti?

Furthermore, there are reports of operatives being paid to create violence and hatred. It is disappointing that the major media outlets ignore these conflicts of interest. Hillary Clinton went from being broke to worth over a hundred million dollars, and I wonder if that happened on the backs of U.S. citizens.

## The sanctity of unborn life

As a Catholic and a Christian, my primary concern is the protection of the unborn. The next Supreme Court justices will determine a great deal. While some view Roe v. Wade as a sacred cow, we must remember that every unborn child is a human being. Today's technology proves this is 100% a human life.

It is terrifying that the Democratic platform has moved toward abortion on demand for any reason. Mr. Trump mentioned in a debate that babies are sometimes killed just days before birth. If we decide it is okay to kill a baby because it is not 'perfect' or has a syndrome, where does it stop? Do we then kill the disabled or the elderly? I remember when my father had a stroke in Canada; the medical approach there was simply to provide morphine and let him die from pneumonia. That is the kind of society we risk creating if we do not value life from conception to natural death.

## A call for leadership and prayer

I hope that leaders, including Cardinal Becciu [unclear], speak out for the unborn. We need to demand protection for the unborn, especially in the later months of pregnancy. I love Pope Francis, and while he may have different views on capitalism and socialism, I pray he continues to guide us. We must remember that we are our brothers' keepers, but help must come through action, not just talk.

We all have to make tough decisions in this election. There are many lives at stake, and I fear that bad policies could lead to the loss of many more unborn children.

*We must speak out against media bias and fight for the protection of the unborn, as every human life is a gift from God regardless of its perceived perfection.*
