# Prayer for Haiti and All Affected by Hurricane Matthew
*2016-10-05*

> Bill Young leads a prayerful broadcast for those impacted by Hurricane Matthew, especially in Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and Florida, while sharing reflections on faith and safety.

## Opening Prayer and Situation Update

Good morning, this is Bill Young. We’re broadcasting from Broward County, Florida, where we expect the winds to increase tonight and tomorrow. Power may go out, so I want to get our prayers out now for everyone already affected by Hurricane Matthew—those who have lost lives or homes in Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and any other islands in the storm’s path, as well as for Floridians who are preparing for the storm.

## Personal Thanks and Requests

I’m grateful for the help of the man who assists me with my lawn; he’s been living in a trailer and is struggling, so I pray for him and his family. I also ask for protection for our police, fire, and rescue personnel here in Florida and for those serving in the affected islands.

## Petition for the Storm’s Path

We pray that the storm moves out to sea and dissipates, sparing lives and property. May God’s mercy keep the hurricane from making landfall where it would cause further harm.

## Scriptural Reflection

We recall how Jesus calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee (Mark 4:35‑41). Even the greatest storms do not last forever, and our faith, however small, can move mountains. Trust in God’s will brings hope, as we have seen after tragedies such as 9/11 and the loss of baseball player José Fernández.

## The Prayer from the Catholic Website

Father, hear our prayers for all those in the path of Hurricane Matthew. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, deliver them from harm and bring swift aid. Mother Mary, pray for them. We also pray for those in Florida, the Bahamas, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and any other affected areas, and for wisdom for officials and safety for those who might be tempted to enter dangerous waters or flood‑ridden roads.

## Closing Encouragement

Please keep praying the Rosary; it is a powerful source of grace. Ask your guardian angel for protection, especially when traveling. Stay safe: remain indoors, avoid downed power lines, help neighbors if you can, and trust that God is with us. God bless everyone in Florida, Haiti, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, and all places touched by Matthew.

*Even the fiercest storms pass, and our faith in God’s mercy sustains us through every trial.*
