# Fifth Grace of the Saint Michael Novena: Protection from Storms and Earthquakes
*2016-09-23*

> Bill Young leads the fifth grace of the Saint Michael novena, praying for protection against natural disasters, evil, and personal trials, and includes the traditional prayers and a hymn to the archangel.

## Opening Prayer to Saint Michael

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray. O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls. Amen.

O St. Michael, enlighten us with your light, protect us with your wings, and defend us with your sword. Defend our homes from demons, wickedness, and the evil committed by people on earth. May we not perish at the Last Judgment.

## The Novena Prayer (Fifth Grace)

O holy angel, archangel, we beseech you, together with the prince of the fifth choir of angels, to free us, your servants, from the hands of our enemies, both hidden and manifest. Spare us from false witnesses. Deliver our country and our hometown from war and oppression. Spare us from thunder, lightning, earthquakes, and storms, which the dragon of hell often uses to harm us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

## Traditional Prayers and Hymn

We recite the Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, my love, pray for sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Closing Blessing

Almighty God, grant that under the patronage of St. Michael the Archangel we may always aspire to heaven, that his glorious intercession may assist us on earth, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle so that we may not perish at the Last Judgment. May the Lord bless you all. Amen.

*We entrust Saint Michael to guard us against both spiritual and natural dangers, especially the storms and earthquakes that threaten our world.*
