# Novena to Blessed Teresa of Calcutta – Day One

## Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, you allowed the thirsting love of Jesus on the Cross to become a living flame within you, so that you became the light of His love to all, drawn from the Heart of Jesus. I now make my personal requests: for those suffering from the earthquake in Italy, for the protection of Rome and Pope Francis, for safety for my wife and me while we travel in Italy, and for the tropical disturbance approaching Miami to dissipate without loss of life. Teach me to allow Jesus to penetrate and possess my whole being so that my life may radiate His light and love to others. Amen.

## Day One – Knowing the Living Jesus

Don’t search for Jesus in far‑away lands; He is not there. He is close to you. He is in you. May we receive the grace of an intimate knowledge of Jesus.

Recite the prayer to Blessed Mother Teresa:

“Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, you allowed the thirsting love of Jesus on the Cross to become a living flame within you, so you became the light of His love to all, obtained from the Heart of Jesus. I make my personal request: for those affected by the earthquake in Italy, for the protection of Rome and Pope Francis, and for safety for my wife and me during our visit. May we all be prepared for the celebration of Mother Teresa’s canonization in ten days. Teach me to allow Jesus to penetrate and possess my whole being so that my life may radiate His light and love to others. Amen.”

## Abandonment to the Father

My Father, I abandon myself to You. Do with me whatever You desire. I accept everything as Your will, for all creatures. I desire nothing else but to place my soul in Your hands, out of love for You, trusting completely in Your divine providence. Amen.

## Petition for Protection

Lord, protect us from the tropical storms heading our way. May they dissipate, bringing only rain and a gentle wind, without flooding, damage, or loss of life. Protect those affected by earthquakes worldwide, especially the victims in Italy, and safeguard Rome, Pope Francis, all bishops, priests, sisters, and all who believe—or even those who have not yet believed—in Your love. Through You, all things are possible. Amen.

*May our hearts be set ablaze by Jesus’ love, so that we become lights for others, especially in times of suffering and disaster.*
