# Novena to Our Lady of the Assumption
*2016-08-05*

> Bill Young leads a prayer novena honoring the Assumption of Mary, including the Apostles’ Creed, several Marian prayers, and a concluding Holy Queen prayer.

## Opening Invocation

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, and welcome to the 137th episode of Prayer and Lunch. We pray in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, come to my aid; O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

## The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Novena Prayer to the Immaculate Virgin

Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God and humankind, we honor your glorious Assumption, body and soul, into heaven, where you reign as Queen of the choirs of angels and the hosts of saints. We join the angels and saints in praising and blessing the Lord, who exalted you above all creatures.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

O Mary, assumed body and soul into heaven, pray for us. Immaculate Virgin, turn your merciful gaze upon our suffering, our struggles, and our weaknesses. May you smile at our joys and hear the cries of our hearts. As the disciples called you Mother, we call upon you as our guide, strength, and consolation in the moral life.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Petition for a World in Need

O Mary, whose eyes wept on earth in the blood of Jesus, now look upon a world stricken by war, persecution, and oppression of the righteous and the weak. Grant us relief through your heavenly mercy, ease the pains of our hearts, and assist us in the trials of the Church and our nations.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

## Hail Holy Queen and Closing Prayer

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, our hope. To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve; we lift up our sighs, mourning in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us, and after our exile show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.

O God, whose only‑begotten Son, by his life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the reward of eternal life, grant that meditating on the mysteries of the Holy Rosary we may grow in love of the Blessed Virgin Mary and obtain the promises of Christ our Lord. Amen.

Amen to you all, and have a blessed day.

*May the Assumption of Mary inspire us to trust in her intercession and to walk confidently toward our heavenly destiny.*
