## Opening and Context

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today is Saturday, July 9, 2016, the third day of our novena to Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It is also the feast day of the Chinese martyrs—St. Augustine Zhao Rong and his companions—who suffered persecution from the 17th to the 20th centuries. St. Augustine was a military man who, after witnessing the faith of a bishop, converted, was baptized, became a priest, and was later martyred.

## Prayer for Dallas

We continue to pray for Dallas, especially the five police officers who were slain, those who were injured, and the families who have lost loved ones. May the Holy Spirit bring them comfort and peace.

## Novena Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

All‑Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we pray: “Queen of Heaven, you gave us the scapular as an outward sign by which we might be known as your faithful children. May we always wear it with honor, avoiding sin and imitating your virtues. Help us to be faithful to this desire.”

My special request is for the slain officers in Dallas, the injured, and all their families and friends.
