# Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help and the legacy of Sister Adele
*2016-06-29*

> Bill Young introduces the Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help and reflects on the mission of Sister Adele, a 19th-century servant of God.

## The Legacy of Sister Adele

Today we have a special prayer called the Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help. In this prayer, it mentions a servant in heaven named Adele. While many of us today might immediately think of the singer Adele, this prayer refers to Sister Adele from the 19th century. Sister Adele received apparitions from Our Lady, who was called Our Lady of Good Help, and she dedicated her life to the mission entrusted to her.

## A Chance Encounter

As a side note, I have a part-time job at the BB&T Center. Recently, during a Garth Brooks concert weekend, I met someone who sounded very much like the singer Adele. She had the accent and the physique, though she wasn't wearing makeup. She mentioned she had flown in from England for the weekend to take her mother to the concert for her birthday. I suspect it may have been her, and if so, I would suggest she offer a prayer to Our Lady of Good Help, as Sister Adele may be able to help her as well.

## The Prayer to Our Lady of Good Help

O dear Lady of Good Help, you revealed yourself as Queen of Heaven to your servant Adele. You gave her a mission to pray for the conversion of sinners, to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to others, and to prepare children for the reception of the sacraments. I trust that as you called Adele to holiness, you are calling me in my station in life to live a holy life, devoted to Jesus Christ.

With the help of your maternal love, I bring before you my worries and anxieties. I abandon my attachments to them and place them at your feet. I ask you to hear the deepest longing of my heart. I pray most earnestly for my family, my son Greg, and my wife Pat. Dear Lady, you told Adele, and you say to all of us: 'Do not be afraid, I will help you.' Help me now as I place this intention with complete confidence and trust. Amen.

## Closing Prayers

We conclude with the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. Our Lady of Good Help, pray for us. Amen.

*By trusting in the maternal love of Our Lady of Good Help, we can abandon our anxieties and strive for holiness in our own stations in life.*
