# Eighth Day of the Divine Mercy Novena
*2016-06-15*

> Bill Young leads the eighth day of the Divine Mercy Novena, reflecting on St. John Francis Regis and praying for the souls in purgatory.

## Introduction and Saint of the Day

Good afternoon, I’m Bill Young. Today we continue with the Divine Mercy Novena, day eight. The intention for this day is: “Bring to me the souls who are in purgatory and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy.” It is also the feast of St. John Francis Regis, a humble 17th‑century priest known for his preaching, confession, and ministry to the poor, the sick, and prisoners. When we invoke his intercession, we pray for all the souls—priests, religious, sisters, deacons, and laypeople—who are in the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.

## Opening Prayer

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O God, come to my aid. O Lord, make haste to help me.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell, rose again on the third day, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father; He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

## Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory

Lord Jesus, today we bring to you the souls who are in the prison of purgatory. Immerse them in the abyss of Your mercy. Let the torrents of Your blood cool the searching flames. These souls are dearly loved by You; they are undergoing purification so that justice may be satisfied. Grant them relief, and may the indulgences of the Church be offered for their benefit.

If we could truly know their torment{unclear}, we would continually offer up our prayers

## Closing Prayer

Eternal Father, look with mercy upon the suffering souls in purgatory, who are enclosed within the most compassionate heart of Jesus. By the passion of Your Son, may their sins be forgiven and their pains relieved. May the blood and water flowing from the heart of Christ quench the flames of purgatory, granting them comfort and refreshment. Through the intercession of St. John Francis Regis, may these souls find peace and be led to heaven. Amen.

*May our prayers of mercy bring relief to the souls in purgatory and draw them ever closer to the love of Christ.*
