# Live for God on Holy Saturday

> Bill reflects on the mystery of Holy Saturday, the meaning of being "dead to sin" from Romans 6:11, and shares a prayer of living for God.

## Holy Saturday and the Mystery of the Harrowing of Hell

Holy Saturday is a day of mystery and fascination. Father Benedict reminds us that the Creed says Christ "descended into hell," but the Latin word "ad inferos" does not refer to a place of eternal torment. It denotes a lower region, a mysterious state where the souls of the dead await salvation. This is sometimes called the "limbo" or the "verge"—a waiting place that gives way to the great joy of the Easter Vigil.

## Living as Dead to Sin (Romans 6:11)

The day’s reading focuses on Romans 6:11: "You must think of yourselves as being dead to sin." This truth calls us to live for God, not for our own desires. When we truly die to sin, we are free to embrace the new life Christ offers.

## A Prayer of the Risen Savior

Risen Savior, I believe that in you I have truly died to sin and am now living for God. I rejoice in the tremendous gift of eternal life through you. Amen.

## A Recommended Resource

I recently listened to a CD from Lighthouse Catholic Media titled *The Resurrection of Jesus: Fact or Fiction?* by Dr. Stephen Smith. He examines the resurrection point by point, offering historical notes that can help both believers and skeptics understand this central mystery of our faith.

*Remember to view yourself as dead to sin, so you can fully live for God.*
