# God Is Stronger Than Evil

> Bill Young reflects on Romans 12:21 during the fifth week of Lent, urging listeners to let the light of Christ shine through their lives and overcome evil with good.

## Opening Prayer and Scripture

Good afternoon. This is Bill Young, welcome to the Prayer at Lunch podcast. Today is Thursday, week five of Lent, and we’re praying from the book *Renew Our Hearts: A Personal Invitation to the Lenten Conversion* by Pope Francis. Our Scripture for today is Romans 12:21: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

## Why God Is Stronger Than Evil

Our mission is to bring the hope and salvation of God to the world, to be a sign of His love that calls everyone into friendship with Him. We are called to be the leaven that makes the dough rise, the salt that gives flavor, the preservative that guards against corruption, and the light that enlightens those around us. Even a quick glance at the news shows how pervasive evil can be, yet God remains stronger because He is Lord, the only Lord.

## Shining the Light of the Gospel

Darkness can be transformed when we bring the light of the Gospel into our lives. Imagine a stadium at night: one single light is barely visible, but when thousands of spectators turn on their phones, the entire arena glows. Let our lives together become that collective illumination, reflecting the light of Christ to the whole world.

## Personal Petition

Jesus, help me be a greater sign of Your love by serving those around me more today. Amen.

*When we let the light of Christ shine through each of us, we overcome evil with good.*
