# Be a Saint: Living Out Our Vocation in Lent
*2016-02-24*

> Bill Young reflects on the Lenten call to holiness from Pope Francis’ “Renew Our Hearts,” using Jeremiah 1:5 to encourage each state of life to become a visible sign of God’s love.

## Opening Prayer and Scripture

Good morning, I’m Bill Young. Today we’re in the second week of Lent, praying from the book *Renew Our Hearts*, Pope Francis’ invitation to conversion. The reading for today is Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.” We ask, “Jesus, help me be a more visible sign of your love to everyone I meet.”

## Being a Saint in Marriage

If you are married, being a saint means loving and caring for your spouse as Christ loves the Church. This love is a daily, concrete witness of God’s self‑gift.

## Saintliness in Work and Service

Whether you are a teacher, a volunteer, or any kind of worker, you are called to become a visible sign of God’s love and patience. Offer your time and talents honestly and competently, serving others as an expression of the grace that makes us holy.

## Saintliness for Singles and the Baptized

If you are single, remember that holiness is not reserved for any particular state of life. Carry out your work with integrity, and dedicate part of your time to serving those in need. God continually communicates Himself to us, inviting us to open ourselves to grace.

## Saintliness in Family Life

Parents and grandparents are called to teach their children and grandchildren to know and follow Jesus. Patience is essential; through patient love we grow in holiness.

*Every state of life offers a unique path to becoming a visible sign of God’s love.*
