# Prayer to the Holy Spirit for Discernment of Truth

## Why This Prayer Matters

February is the month of the Holy Spirit, so I wanted to offer a special prayer for discernment of truth. Recent news reminded me of how important it is to seek the Spirit’s guidance. Pope Francis, returning from Mexico, spoke about building bridges rather than walls. Even as a registered Republican, I agree wholeheartedly with his call for compassion and understanding.

## The Context of Our Times

We often fear what we don’t understand—different languages, cultures, or economic concerns. Some claim that immigrants take our jobs, but the reality is that many low‑wage positions are filled by recent college graduates who can’t find better work in a struggling economy. The truth is complex, and it’s easy to be misled by partial information.

## A Prayer for Discernment

O Spirit of God, who through your light distinguishes truth from error, help us to know the truth. Dispel our illusions and reveal reality. Grant that we may recognize the true language of God in the depths of our souls and distinguish it from every other voice. Show us your divine will in every circumstance so that we may make the right decisions. Help us discern the signs of God in all events and the proposals He places before us. Give us supernatural perception to discover what love truly demands, and the generosity to act on that love. Above all, lift our gaze to you, O Holy Spirit, that we may be touched through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
