# Draw Nearer to Jesus
*2016-02-17*

> Bill Young reflects on the Lenten call to draw nearer to Christ, using Joshua 3:9 and Pope Francis’ invitation to conversion, and offers a prayer for deeper communion during Lent.

## Opening Scripture and Theme

We begin with Joshua 3:9: “Draw near and hear the words of the Lord your God.” This verse frames our Lenten journey, inviting us to come closer to Jesus in the ordinary rhythms of daily life.

## Pope Francis’ Invitation to Conversion

In the book *Renew Our Hearts*, Pope Francis calls us to a personal conversion during Lent. He reminds us that Jesus walks among us, especially with the least, healing our infirmities and inviting us to listen to His Word, the spirit of life (John 6:63).

## Living the Call in Prayer and Sacrament

When we unite ourselves to Jesus through prayer, Sacred Scripture, the Eucharist, and the other sacraments, we begin to bear fruit. This interior transformation enables us to cooperate with God in the service of His kingdom—bringing mercy, truth, justice, and peace to the world.

## Lenten Prayer

Jesus, help me draw ever nearer to you through my Lenten practices. Amen.

*Lent is a time to intentionally draw nearer to Christ, allowing His Word and the sacraments to transform our hearts.*
